The Wall That Heals

The Aston Business Association is proud to support this Aston Township Event. The Wall That Heals exhibit features a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The replica is 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. Visitors experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C.
Like the original Memorial, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron-shape and visitors can do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall. The replica is constructed of Avonite, a synthetic granite, and its 140 numbered panels are supported by an aluminum frame. Machine engraving of the more than 58,000 names along with modern LED lighting provide readability of The Wall day and night.
As on The Wall, the names on The Wall That Heals are listed by day of casualty. Beginning at the center/apex, the names start on the East Wall (right-hand side) working their way out to the end of that wing, picking up again at the far end of the West Wall (left-hand side) and working their way back in to the center/apex, joining the beginning and end of the war at the center.
The Wall That Heals will be arriving on Tuesday, October 6th. Wednesday, October 7th; The Wall will be constructed at 3264 Concord Road, Aston; Thursday, October 8th will be Opening Ceremonies; The Wall will be open and manned 24 hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday: October 8, 9 and 10th; The Closing Ceremonies will be Sunday, October 11th. Community Day begins with a parade from Neumann University (Neumann Drive) starting at 9:00 am (check-in 8:00 am).

Be a part of your community’s history as we kick off Aston Township Community Day. We will begin the day with the annual parade from Neumann University beginning at 9:00 am and proceed south on Concord Road where it will be joined by the bike contest participants at the Big Lots Store parking lot and continue south on Concord Road to the Community Center where the Community Day festivities and the Aston Business Expo will begin. Any business or community group in Aston Township is invited to participate in the parade. Community Day Parade (not the bike contest) line up begins at 8:00 am at Neumann University (Concord Road entrance).
